The indomitable
MicroFoucault (N°26)
This is the Foucault pendulum of all excesses, born to do better than the old MiniFoucault (n°4) whose life expectancy could never exceed one week before breaking its thread. To achieve this, all we had to do was drastically reduce the amplitude of the pendulum. Logical, simple and brilliant, except that… a reduced amplitude means a reduced Coriolis force. This is the story of a duel. The last one.
Specifications:
Pendulum length: adjustable between 8 and 11 centimetres. Pendulum weight: 2.171 kilos of lead. Amplitude: between 5 and 8 millimetres. Bronze Charron ring and granite base. Power supply: one AA 1.5 volt battery. 5 months of testing, trial and error and fine-tuning before it could start turning.
