Foucault 25: technique

Trial no. 1.(9th August 2024)

First tests before adjustments: the pendulum is launched and turns the first time in the right direction.

Connection of a clock measuring device (MicroSet)

First adjustments to the height of the pendulum, the time to be achieved being one second per beat. First data recorded:

…where we can see that it lags by 2.6 seconds per day after 1.4 days, The two peaks we can see mark a half-rotation of the pendulum completed in 19 hours, i.e. a full rotation in 38 hours (instead of 33.26 hours at my latitude: 12% slower than it should be!!!)

This graph is recurrent: it’s the signature of my pendulum in its current state. These same curves will always repeat themselves.

You can also see that it’s unstable and that anything can upset it. I think this is due to the bronze Charron ring with Foucault brake underneath.

August 2024: A break from current experiments because I’m working on the MicroFoucault, which is taking up all my time and my measuring equipment. I’ll start again as soon as it’s finished.
